The Sheffield Bruins Baseball Club were formed in 2018, making its debut into the Northern Baseball League, associated with the British Baseball League (BBL). The club’s first campaign was within the Single-A. After a dominant year, boasting a 79.2% win percentage (19-5), with a regular season run differential of +183 the Bruins looked to tackle their first playoff run. Taking the number one seed in the playoffs, the Bruins managed to beat the Hull Scorpions and GB Legend Gav Marshall in a closely fought final.
Reflecting on the Bruins dominant season, the Bruins were promoted to the Triple-A Division. The team proved they were a force to be reckoned with, competing against the well established teams of Liverpool Trojans and Cartmel Valley Lions. The team finished the regular season with a 20-8 record, securing their place in the playoffs. The Bruins dominated against the Nottingham Rebels in the semi-final of the playoffs to head to the 3-game series against the Liverpool Trojans. It was a hard fought series, going down to the wire in game 3. Unfortunately, the Bruins couldn't hold off the Trojans any longer and succumbed to the defending league winners.
The Bruins travelled to Benameji (Spain) in the run up to the 2020 season for a spring training tour. The final turned out to be an epic pitching duel with some incredible plays on the field. The Bruins fought valiently but fell to a well-deserved Sevilla Baseball Team, with the game ending with a score 2-1. The tournament was arrange in honour of Benameji's manager who tragically passed away last year. The team proved they can play with the best and are hoping they can take the top spot on their return next year.
The Bruins are now looking to come back even stronger with the aim to end the reign of the Trojans and secure their place as the best team in the North of England.
